Irwindale Police Department Adapts to the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Community Info Banner

Along with the rest of you, the Irwindale Police Department is adapting to the challenges brought about by the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).

This is a fluid and evolving crisis and the police department is adapting in real-time in order to maintain our staffing and service levels. Our citizens and community are our priorities and we intend to carry out our public safety mission throughout this situation. It is our goal to continue to provide the highest level of service and public safety, while preserving the health of our community.

To this end, we have equipped our staff with the equipment, training and resources they need to serve the community, while reducing the likelihood of the introduction or the spread of COVID-19 within the police department’s ranks. With direction and input from our federal, state and local partners, we will continue to take all of the precautions necessary in order to keep everyone involved as safe as possible during our interactions with the community.

Please know that we have not changed or reduced our deployment levels and we will continue to respond to calls for service. We are in communication with county, state and federal officials and we will continue to assess our deployment posture on a day-to-day basis.

In order to limit exposure of the public and our employees however, we have taken certain logical precautions and have modified some of our procedures in order to reduce the exposure of the public and our employees during community contacts. These modifications include:

  •  Non-emergency crime reports accepted via telephone rather than in person
  •  The suspension of registrant and fingerprinting services
  •  Vehicle and property releases by appointment only

Our police station lobby will remain open for limited purposes, such as essential and emergency situations. We encourage residents to call (626) 430-2244 to determine if we can serve your needs without requiring a visit to the police station.

If you are making a call for service to report criminal activity, need to file a police report, are making an appointment for vehicle or property release, or if have questions of a law enforcement nature, please call our station at (626) 430-2244.  You can continue to call 9-1-1 for emergencies.

If you are experiencing flu-like symptoms, fever or a respiratory illness, please notify us when you make the call. This will allow our first responders to take any needed safety precautions prior to our arrival.

We apologize for any inconvenience these service modifications may cause you, especially under these difficult circumstances. Please know that the men and women of the Irwindale Police Department remain fully committed to the safety and well-being of our citizens and we are dedicated to maintaining the superior level of service everyone has come to expect from our personnel. We will continue to serve you throughout this incident and we ask that you help us protect our officers and employees, so they, in turn, can continue to work hard to protect you!
