On Sunday March 5th, 2017, the one year anniversary of the Foothill Gold Line Extension Grand Opening - the Metro Open Streets Program presents 626 Golden Streetsa once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to walk, bike, run, skate, scoot, dance and play on over 18 miles of car-free open streets.

Modeled after other "open street" or "ciclovia" events, 626 Golden Streets is a family-friendly event that features 18+ miles of open, car-free roadway stretching from South Pasadena to Azusa where the community can walk, run, skate, bike and explore the 626.

The route links 6 Metro Foothill Gold Line Station and passes through the cities of South Pasadena, San Marino, Arcadia, Monrovia, Duarte, Irwindale and Azusa. There is no start line or finish line and participants may join and depart the route anywhere they wish. 626 Golden Streets is not a race...there are no finisher awards or medals....only smiles and miles of open streets! 

The event is FREE and all forms are non-motorized transportation are permitted. Participants are encouraged to travel the route at their own pace and check out the many local businesses, organizations, community groups and more who will be found along the route. Event organizers only ask that participants be considerate and courteous of others along the way, obey all traffic and pedestrian laws and enjoy the event.

In addition to the 626 route, each city will host a FREE "Hub" that spotlights their community.  

The City of Irwindale's Hub will be located at the Foothill Gold Line Station located at 16017 Avenida Padilla in the City of Irwindale, 91706.  The Hub hours and 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.


Access to Irwindale's Hub is FREE and is open to everyone, whether they are participating in the 626 Golden Streets event or not.  The Irwindale Hub features a full lineup of fun and events and includes the following:

STREET CLOSURE INFORMATION
626 Golden Streets will require numerous road closures along the event route, including several streets in the City of IrwindaleVehicle traffic on these roads will not be permitted between approximately 5:00 AM and 2:00 pm on March 5th.

Traffic on Central Avenue, Foothill Blvd., Irwindale Avenue and the I-210 Freeway On- and Off-ramps will be particularly heavy during the event.  Commuters should take appropriate measures and plan ahead.

The City of Irwindale’s portion of the 626 Golden Streets event includes the following roadway segments and restrictions:

LOCATION

VEHICLE CLOSURE

Central Avenue

Between the west city limits (at Bradborne Ave.) and Crestfield Drive

FULL CLOSURE

No westbound or eastbound vehicle traffic will be allowed from the Duarte border to the Crestfield Drive

Foothill Blvd. (Westbound)

Between the west city limits (Foothill Bridge) and the east city limits (16000 block of Foothill Blvd.)

FULL CLOSURE

No westbound traffic will be allowed from the Azusa border to the Duarte border

Foothill Blvd.

(Eastbound)

Between the west city limits (Foothill Bride) and Irwindale Avenue

FULL CLOSURE

No eastbound traffic will be allowed from the Duarte border to Irwindale Avenue.

Irwindale Ave. (Southbound)

Between Foothill Blvd. and Jardin De Roca

FULL CLOSURE

There will be no southbound traffic allowed from Foothill Blvd. to Jardin De Roca or from the 210

Irwindale Ave. (Northbound)

Between Jardin De Roca and Foothill Blvd.

PARTIAL CLOSURE

Northbound traffic will be permitted between Jardin De Roca and Foothill Blvd. subject to the listed full and partial closures at Foothill Blvd and the 210 Freeway

210 Freeway (Eastbound)

On- and Off-ramps at Irwindale Avenue

PARTIAL CLOSURE

Vehicles will allowed to exit the EB off-ramp, but will be directed north on Irwindale Ave.  No southbound access to Irwindale Ave.

Vehicles going NB on Irwindale Ave. may enter the EB on-ramp.  There will be no access to the on-ramp from SB on Irwindale Ave.

210 Freeway (Westbound)

On- and off-ramps at Irwindale Avenue

FULL CLOSURES

Both the westbound on-ramp and the off-ramp will be fully closed

Jardin De Roca

Entrance of the Meto Gold Line Parking Structure

REDUCED ACCESS

Street will be open to traffic in both directions, however access will be reduced due to pedestrian and bicycle traffic

Avenida Padilla

Between Irwindale Road and Optical Drive

REDUCED ACCESS

Street will be open to traffic in both directions, however access will be reduced due to the installation of temporary pedestrian walkways


In addition to the above listed road closures, NO PARKING will be permitted on any of these streets beginning at midnight on Sunday, March 5th through approximately 2:00 PM that afternoon.  Temporary NO PARKING signs will be in place and vehicles parked in violation of the posted signs will subject to citation and/or tow.

DETOUR DIRECTIONS TO IRWINDALE HUB (IRWINDALE GOLD LINE STATION)

Access to the City of Irwindale Gold Line station from the 210 Freeway and from Irwindale Avenue will be restricted due to event-related street and off-ramp closures. 

We suggest the following alternative routes:

Driving West on the 210 Freeway:

From the WB 210 Freeway, take the Vernon Avenue exit: 

  • Make a left onto 3rd Street and a right on Vernon Avenue
  • Turn right on Gladstone Street 
  • Turn right on Irwindale Avenue
  • Parking is available at the Southern California Edison Parking Structure – First driveway north of 1st Street – OR -
  • Parking is available in the Metro Gold Line Parking Structure – Left on Jardin de Roca

Driving West on the 210 Freeway (Alternative): 

From the WB 210 Freeway, go south on the 605 Freeway and take the Arrow Highway exit:

  • Make a left onto Arrow Highway
  • Turn left on Irwindale Avenue 
  • Parking is available at the Southern California Edison Parking Structure – First driveway north of 1st Street – OR -
  • Parking is available in the Metro Gold Line Parking Structure – Left on Jardin de Roca

Driving East on the 210 Freeway:

From the EB 210 Freeway, take the Vernon Avenue exit:

  • Make a left onto Vernon Avenue
  • Turn right on Gladstone Street 
  • Turn right on Irwindale Avenue
  • Parking is available at the Southern California Edison Parking Structure – First driveway north of 1st Street  - OR -
  • Parking is available in the Metro Gold Line Parking Structure – Left on Jardin de Roca

Driving North on the 605 Freeway: 

From the NB 605 Freeway, take the Live Oak Avenue exit:

  • Merge right onto Live Oak Avenue
  • Live Oak Avenue becomes Arrow Highway
  • Turn left on Irwindale Avenue 
  • Parking is available at the Southern California Edison Parking Structure – First driveway north of 1st Street – OR -
  • Parking is available in the Metro Gold Line Parking Structure – Left on Jardin de Roca
